It seems like a quirky contest has started among some Republican lawmakers—who can show the most love for former President Donald Trump? From renaming airports to altering history, the ideas are coming in fast and bold.
Tennessee Representative Andy Ogles recently took things a step further by suggesting a constitutional amendment to allow Trump to serve a third term. Why? Because Trump casually mentioned the idea, and Ogles thought, “Why not?” While it’s highly unlikely to pass, it’s clear the message is more about loyalty than lawmaking.
Over in North Carolina, freshman Representative Addison McDowell wasted no time proposing a name change for Washington Dulles International Airport. He wants it to honor Trump, putting him on the same pedestal as Ronald Reagan, who has his own airport in D.C.
Meanwhile, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is pushing to erase Trump’s impeachments—literally. Her bill aims to wipe the record clean, making it seem like the impeachments never happened.
And if that’s not enough, Florida’s Anna Paulina Luna has a grand idea: add Trump’s face to Mount Rushmore. Yes, the iconic monument that features Washington, Lincoln, and Roosevelt could have a new addition if her bill gains traction.
While these proposals are more symbolic than practical, they’re a clear sign of Trump’s ongoing influence in the G.O.P. as lawmakers compete to win his favor. Whether any of these ideas will ever see the light of day remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure—this contest of flattery is far from over.
